Barcelona, April 12th, 2024 – UOMi, the oncology unit of Clínicas MI, has announced a joint venture with Pratia, a leading international clinical research network with nearly a hundred research sites across Europe, to establish Pratia Sirius, a new model of clinical trials conduct, unprecedented in Spain.
Dr. Santiago Viteri, medical director of UOMi and CEO of Pratia Sirius, remarks the significance of this pioneering initiative. “Clinical trials are integral to the advancement of new oncological treatments. However, they are conducted in a fragmented manner across various hospital centers, resulting in slower and less efficient processes”. According to Dr. Viteri, “with the establishment of this autonomous unit exclusively dedicated to clinical trials, we will possess our own infrastructure and personnel, thereby expediting the research process and ensuring the quality of the outcomes”.
The initial agreement entails the opening of two centers at Clínica Mi Tres Torres in Barcelona and Clínica Mi NovAliança in Lleida. Research conducted at these facilities will focus on evaluating the efficacy and safety of novel oncological treatments, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and advancing the research against cancer.
Jaime Ballester, Country Head Pratia Spain, declares “we stay committed at Pratia to continuously increase Patients access to innovative treatments. We believe that thanks to new dedicated research units Spanish Patients will get a more comprehensive choice of therapeutic options in oncology as well as in other therapeutic areas. Dedicated site model has proven to be extremely successful in other countries. In Spain, this model adds onto our existing operations of embedded research sites and professional site staff outsourcing. We are excited of Dr. Santiago Viteri and his experienced team joining us in this new venture. Development in oncology has always been for us one of the strategic growth directions.”
This initiative sets to start in Barcelona and Lleida and aspires to establish a network of specialized clinical trials units throughout the country.
